MY STORY

Annie Chen is a graphic designer who truly takes a global approach to her work. Hailing from Taiwan, she grew up in Thailand and studied in US before bringing her work and passion to Toronto, ON, Canada.

Her love for visual design started with craft making and drawing letterforms from a young age. Taking her passion from a hobby to a career, Annie studied at the California College of Arts (CCA) in San Francisco, California earning a B.F.A with distinction.

Following graduation, she worked as an in-house designer on branding and package design for Finn Bicycle. With a curiosity of the rapid evolution of design technology, Annie then decided to pursue her Masters of Design at York University in Toronto, Ontario. Her curiosity put theory to practice as she explored design in digital, print and mixed media.

Annie’s belief that design is not restricted by medium has produced contemplative work which values and thoughtfully explores the impact of art and design across print and digital many platforms.

Her exploration of concept, art and design and its relationship with the physical world was featured Annie’s project simply titled, ‘Home.’ Her exhibition featured both a book and installation to explore her personal connection of home through poignant remarks made on grains of rice. Vanderbyl Design featured the project at the 2009 Icograda World Design Congress in Beijing, where Michael Vanderbyl (principal) called Annie’s work "brilliantly conceived and inspiringly executed."

Her work has received the following awards and recognitions:
2007, Adobe Design Achievement Awards, "Home";
